Lead safe Procedures

Lead paint has been a problem in older homes for many years but has only recently been put under scrutiny by the EPA.  As of April, 22, 2010 new laws are being implemented and enforced by the EPA to ensure that any lead based paint is removed or contained properly.

What does this mean?

Any house built before 1978 must be tested for lead based paint on the windows or doors before any removal can begin.  If the windows/doors have tested positive for lead based paint the installers must follow Lead Safe Procedures.

Lead safe procedures are a set of guidelines set by the EPA and certification is required to perform removal of any lead based painted windows, doors, casing, siding or drywall.  The certification requires intensive training by certified Firms and individuals must pass a rigorous test to become certified.

How does this affect my house and family?

Anyone can remove your windows and doors but not everyone can remove them properly.  If proper procedures are not followed your home could become a "hot spot" with lead dust.  Lead dust has many harmful effects and can permanently harm young children.

How we protect your Family and Home

All the installers at AWS have been certified as Lead Safe Workers.   Lead Safe Workers have passed all the qualifications to handle your lead paint safely, which includes:

Proper testing to determine if your windows/doors have lead based paint.

Visually marking containment area to inform others of the containment area.

Containment of dust during removal and installation of the new window.

Properly cleaning up the containment area.

Documentation of all procedures to satisfy the EPA's requirements.
